A Garden Fete
By Alan Ayckbourn
This amateur production is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH LTD
Ayckbourn can always be relied upon to bring out the black humour of any situation. Written between 1982 and 1983, Intimate Exchanges consists of eight major stories all originating from a single opening scene. The story we are exploring takes us from Celia and Toby’s garden via a Garden Fete to meet Lionel Hepplewick and his aged father, Joe. Finally, we arrive in a graveyard where we learn about Sylvie’s future. The twist is that the entire play is performed by two actors. The play was nominated for the 1984 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, and a 2006 revival was nominated for the 2008 Drama Desk Award. A great night out!
