Synopsis

8 plays each lasting 8 minutes and by 8 authors!

This is the third time we have staged this new writing competition, and we have again been overwhelmed by the dozens of entries received (and their excellence), all carefully considered by our judging panel (8 judges, obviously!), to select the final 8 to be performed (and published, alongside a further 8 entries).

But this time it’s different. This production is part of the Bradford 2025 City of Culture festival, and we are grateful to Bradford 2025 and Creative Lives for their grant and support for this production. And they have selected the theme, namely: -

Magic Waiting – taken from a quote by Bradford’s own JB Priestley:

“I have always been delighted  at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning”

There will be comedy, there will be romance, there will be drama, there will be mystery. . . 8 new plays in one evening. The previous two 8x8x8s were completely sold out, so we are sure you won’t want to miss out on discovering what magic is waiting for you!

The final 8 plays selected are:

Patient Confidentiality by Leonie Thompson

The Apples of Hesperides by Jonathan Edgington

The Next Train to Arrive by Jay Cundell Walker

A Flicker by Guy Newsham

Magic Greenfingers by Matthew Wignall

Over the Edge by Paulette Holmes

What She Lost by Susan Haan

Moon with a View by Bernie Hughes
