Front Of House
We always welcome new Front of House volunteers to help in one of the roles detailed below. We never throw you in the deep end - there's always some training first and then a shadowing session to help you decide if it's something you enjoy. So if you have some spare time, enjoy the buzz of entertainment – and the company of lovely people - read on!
Providing a friendly welcome, our helpers sell programmes, usher visitors to the correct theatre space, and support the House Manager. They also get to sit through the event, so it’s a great way to see a play!
Following a list of instructions on the day of the event, the House Manager checks that all is ready 'front of house' for the event to begin. She, or he, is in charge of the audience and sits amongst them during the event and is aided by the programme sellers.
Serving tea and coffee
Refreshment facilities are provided in the Sheridan Suite before an Ilkley Playhouse production and during the interval.
Two people work together in a fully equipped catering kitchen. There’s no washing up, meaning that there is plenty of time to make new friends. The job is usually finished by 9pm.
For every event we need two people to run our (easily managed) bar. No previous experience is necessary, as full training and support is provided.
We request that all Front of House volunteers wear black or black and white clothing.
If any of these roles take your fancy, we would love to hear from you!
