Bard in the Yard
Bard in the Yard
In 2020, Bard in the Yard consisted of a selection of Shakespearian monologues. In 2021 it was half-hour versions of Macbeth and Twelfth Night. Both were extremely well received and well attended. In 2022 we present a half-hour version of “Romeo and Juliet” plus half an hour of 6-8 Shakespearian duologues. The significant duologues from various Shakespeare plays are about five minutes in length. Six to eight of these will be performed, to make up about 30 minutes. The context of each will be explained to the audience in advance, so they can sample a variety of the Bard’s great works.
ROMEO AND JULIET
“On a late summer’s day Ilkley Playhouse brings a pair of star-crossed lovers to the Manor House Yard in a half hour version of one of Shakespeare’s most famous and most loved plays.
Loving both unwisely and too well, Romeo and Juliet’s impossible dream bestrides the implacable enmity of their families across the Yorkshire flagstones. Sword play, potions, poison, tombs at the dead of night. It’s not going to end well… ”
