Synopsis

Amnesty Wharfedale is delighted to be screening the 2023 Ken Loach film The Old Oak as part of National Refugee Week.

The Old Oak pub is the only remaining public space where people can meet in a once-thriving mining community in North East England. The landlord, TJ Ballantyne, hangs on to The Old Oak by his fingertips, and his hold is endangered even more when the pub becomes contested territory after the arrival of Syrian refugees.

The bar will be open before (from 7pm) and after the screening, and there will be information available from the local Amnesty branch and a discussion about the film in the bar afterwards.

All are welcome to watch this important and very topical film. Funds raised will be sent to Amnesty International.
