One Man. One Machine. Many Music Memories.

Trevor journeys through the present dark, towards a distant light, with a curious companion, cementing the past to the present, and connecting memories of love and music, as he dances with hope towards our new normal future.

Trevor’s journey is a tale of our time, a play for today, performed as a one man show in the safe and intelligent hands of National Theatre acclaimed actor William Ilkley, who until lockdown had enjoyed three years playing Arthur Narracott in the UK & World Tour of ‘War Horse’. William’s extensive career has now spanned 40 years after starting out at Ilkley Grammar School and Ilkley Playhouse, under the guidance and mentorship of David Wildman. Indeed William's last full show at IP was in EQUUS in 1978.

Trevor is an ordinary 60 year old man, living through extraordinary times. His story is one that every man can identify with. As he travels through the darkest dark, unexpectedly finding the brightest light he treads the path of a time walker, with the belief that this too will pass if we can all walk and talk together, beyond the present, unafraid of a different and changed future.

But how does Trevor manage to keep the faith of optimism in these uncertain times? He finds a new strange friend - a friend that he has ignored, refusing to recognize their value - a friend capable of talking back, and to be talked to, amazingly also to be told to stop talking!  A bonus from his new best buddy is music; soul, funk, northern soul; connecting him with the past, and providing the courage to go beyond the now, with hope into the future.

This play was conceived and created by William and written as an original piece by Suzanne Ellison, who claims her greatest gift is to get inside her character's head, and write with empathy and truth in order to offer hope, amidst the tears and laughter.

The play is punctuated by inspiring upbeat Soul music, culminating with Trevor accepting the challenge of returning to the dance floor from his new-fangled friend! Trevor meets 'Strictly'!

Although a modern tragedy, exploring the raw issues of our covid lockdowns today, the play looks beyond the bleak, by spreading the joy through the music, the dance and the humour, that illustrates the resilience and hope of the human spirit.
