Synopsis

by Amanda Whittington

By arrangement with Nick Hern Books

Ruth Ellis was hanged in 1955. The outcry was so intense that no woman in Britain has ever been hanged since. But why did  she shoot her boyfriend? Ruth never said.

In this Film Noir style play, Amanda Whittington (Ladies Day, Be My Baby) explores, through the eyes of the investigating detective, the seedy world of escorts, of controlling rich men, of women and their support network of friendships; and helps us, using both humour and drama, to a deeper understanding of what can drive a woman – any woman – along the road to murder.
