Synopsis

This is an amateur production presented by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.

Written by Lucy Kirkwood

Sometime after an unspecified environmental disaster at a power station somewhere on the coast of England, married couple Robin and Hazel, both retired nuclear scientists, receive a visit from their former colleague Rose.

The three friends haven’t met for over 30 years and while Rose’s arrival initially brings back many fun-filled, humorous memories of their shared youth, it also unearths long-buried secrets and lies.

Lucy Kirkwood’s powerful and often very funny play has at its heart a meaty moral dilemma and the powerfully resonant message that in order to safeguard the future, we have to take responsibility for the present and the past.

Retired people are like nuclear power stations. They like to live by the sea"
